Andy’s practice focuses on civil litigation and insurance defense in the firm’s Torts and Insurance practice group. His experience spans a wide variety of cases, including personal injury defense, commercial automobile defense, premises liability defense, professional liability defense, and defense of civil rights claims against government officials and agencies.

Prior to joining Sturgill Turner, he worked in private practice in two regional defense firms. He also served as Assistant Fayette County Attorney, where he prosecuted misdemeanor and felony charges in Fayette County Court, conducted jury trials, and represented the Commonwealth of Kentucky in front of the Kentucky Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of Kentucky.

Experience

Phelps v. Bluegrass Hosp. Mgmt., LLC, 630 S.W.3d 623 (Ky. 2021). The Supreme Court of Kentucky upheld summary judgment of a premise liability slip and fall where the plaintiff could not identify the cause of her fall.

Waugh v. Parker, 584 S.W.3d 748 (Ky. 2019). Kentucky Defense Counsel amicus curiae brief. The Supreme Court of Kentucky upheld summary judgment for a landlord on a defective railing claim because the landlord did not breach a duty under the Uniform Residential Landlord and Tenant Act and because the tenant knew of the condition of the railing.

Gooch v. Commonwealth, 496 S.W.3d 492 (Ky. App. 2016). Court of Appeals of Kentucky upheld a conditional guilty plea where the defendant refused a BAC breath test but requested a blood test.

Bruck v. Petry, No. CV 5:21-152-DCR, 2022 WL 2109187 (E.D. Ky. June 10, 2022). Obtained summary judgment on alleged violations of constitutional rights by an arresting officer responding to request for welfare check on suicidal plaintiff.
